The Effect of Pontics on the Gingival Tissue
Lee Sun-Hyung

Abstract
This cytologic observation was performed to evaluate the effect of poetics on the gingival tissue.
I have prepared one hundred smears (male 49 cases, female 51 cases) from the healthy gingiva for the control group, and fifty smears¢¥(resin pontic 25 cases, casting gold pontic 15-cases, porcelain pontic 10 cases) from the subjacent tissue of pontics for the bridge group.. The results of this study are as follows;
1. The average percentages of each cell type of the control group are 70.2% in Type I (yellow cell), 18.6% in Type II (red cell), 5.4% in Type III (red blue cell), 5.9% in Type IV (blue cell).
2. In the bridge group, the percentage of Type I is less than that of control group, while the percentage of Type II and Type IV are more than them of control group.
3. There are three kinds of pontics being made of acrylic resin, casting gold and porcelain in the bridge group, the data of the resin group is the most similar to that of the inflammatory group among them, and that of the porcelain group more similar to it than that of the casting gold group.
4. There is a remarkable difference between the saddle pontic group and sanitary pontic group. The data of the saddle pontic group is more similar to that of the inflammatory group than that of the sanitary pontic group.
